Listing several optional modules on a product page does not mean they can be combined arbitrarily. Product configuration dependencies should explain prerequisites, confirmed mutual exclusions and combinations awaiting assessment. Buyers need to know they are selecting condition-dependent objects rather than adding every displayed function into a final product.

Organize actual relationships before deciding whether to build an interactive configurator. Clear text can support preliminary judgment. Without confirmed rules, controls that automatically restrict choices may simply execute incorrect relationships faster.

## Move from individual options to configuration relationships

Have product owners first confirm which base products each option serves and what capability it adds. Names suggesting the same series do not establish usability in the same configuration. Complete object identification before discussing relationships, avoiding options from different versions in one shared list.

Then ask whether each option works independently, what prerequisites it requires, which objects it cannot accompany and what remains unconfirmed. Answers must come from actual product documents, not editors’ inferences from appearance or function descriptions. Record unsupported blanks as pending rather than assuming compatibility.

Distinguish basic supply, optional modules and external supporting equipment too. A capability may depend on another company option or existing customer conditions. Calling both “select this first” suggests a common supplier when supply ownership and applicability actually need separate checks.

Suppose an expansion function needs a company-confirmed base component and another option cannot be used with it. Explain the prerequisite and exclusion separately instead of merging them into “configuration dependent.” This hypothesis explains rule expression; it does not establish any specific product structure.

Relationship records should retain objects, relationship types, conditions, evidence used and confirmation scope. Individual option descriptions can reference the record instead of inventing another relationship set. Before adding a new module to the page, confirm how it relates to existing objects.

## Write prerequisites as statements customers can check

A prerequisite should state “what must already be present before selecting what.” If company documents confirm an expansion component fits only a specific base configuration, place that identity beside its description. “Use with supporting equipment” alone leaves customers guessing which item.

Define the conditions’ scope too. If the prerequisite is equipment version, provide identification guidance. If it is existing customer equipment, explain documents needed for checking. If it is another company option, state whether included or separately required. The aim is to support next-step judgment, not require independent engineering certification. See [How to design a B2B product comparison page? The more parameters there are, the more necessary it is to help customers make decisions quickly](https://www.jvds.cn/en/share/website-design/b2b-product-comparison-page) for related checks.

For multiple prerequisites, distinguish whether all are required or one confirmed route suffices. Several names without their relationship may suggest any one will do. Technical staff must confirm the distinction; content teams cannot omit its logic merely to shorten explanations.

Conditions may form several layers. If one option requires another module that has its own base conditions, showing only the first layer is insufficient. Provide a complete confirmed usage path or brief summary explaining all objects ultimately needed for a capability, without scattering the chain across pages.

If customers cannot tell whether they meet a prerequisite, provide identifying documents or an inquiry method. Do not force them to select “met” in a configuration table or treat “unknown for now” as present. Unknown inputs should accompany requirements into later checks instead of disappearing beneath a default tick.

## Mutual exclusions must identify specific combinations and actual reasons

First identify which objects cannot be used together and the base configuration covered by the conclusion. Do not expand one combination’s restriction into incompatibility of those options across every product. If configurations differ, let readers recognize the differences instead of using an excessively broad rejection.

Explain company-approved reasons to an appropriate extent. These may concern supply arrangements, confirmed configuration scope or other product conditions; owners provide the actual reason. Website staff must not invent spatial, power or software mechanisms and turn a business restriction into an unverified engineering conclusion.

If exclusion requires choosing between two task directions, explain each option’s confirmed task. Buyers can then state priorities instead of assuming an option labeled “advanced” is preferable. Tradeoffs come from task applicability rather than marketing rankings.

Alternative combinations also need evidence. Excluding two objects together does not establish that adding a third module solves the problem. Without a confirmed alternative, explain that further assessment is needed. With one, identify its objects and conditions. Do not fill every exclusion with a seemingly more comprehensive package.

If using an interactive tool, explain the rule when a restriction occurs and retain the customer’s original task. Graying out an option alone may suggest unavailable stock or a broken page. Tools implement existing relationships and must match public explanations and inquiry records; they cannot replace rule checks.

## Pending combinations need next steps without appearing approved

Present combinations absent from technical documents separately from confirmed exclusions. State “This combination requires further confirmation” and request the base product, selected objects and usage task. A lack of explicit rejection does not justify allowing it into final supply descriptions as a completed configuration.

Customers may arrive with a task rather than fixed modules to buy. Preserve the relationship between task and candidate configuration so recipients understand why these objects were selected. A list of option names alone cannot reveal necessary prerequisites or items added mistakenly from the page.

Transmit combination status together with existing conditions. Recipients should distinguish confirmed portions, unknown base identities and information still needed. Successful submission means only the requirement was received; it must not display “configuration reviewed” or “ready for use” unless the corresponding confirmation actually occurred.

After customers change the base product, recheck whether old option conclusions remain valid. Pages can prompt review of related conditions instead of automatically transferring the old combination. Technical confirmation of one relationship must not become a permanent label unrelated to later selections.

If rules remain inconsistent, have owners organize common combinations before opening every option for free combination. Publish confirmed routes and information-preparation guidance for other needs. Tool complexity should follow relationship reliability instead of beginning with an apparently universal configurator.

## One valid example is insufficient: verify prerequisites and conflicts separately

Prepare an independently usable option, a prerequisite-dependent combination, a confirmed mutually exclusive combination and one lacking information. Record the base object and expected status for each, then ask another reader to judge from the page. Without real product documents, explicitly mark internal exercises as hypothetical rules and do not use them as external product promises.

Check prerequisite-dependent examples both when conditions are met and unmet. Can readers identify what is missing rather than merely “cannot select”? For several confirmed routes, check each route’s conditions accurately so an alternative prerequisite does not disappear in summaries.

Check mutually exclusive examples in both selection directions. Selecting the first and then viewing the second, or searching in reverse, should produce the same relationship. Text pages and interactive tools must not prohibit simultaneous use on one side while recommending the complete package on the other and implying an exception.

Acceptance of unknown combinations should yield accurate questions and document paths, not force a positive system answer. Check whether submitted information retains unknown status and whether recipients identify the objects needing assessment. Automatically declaring every situation usable does not make configuration rules complete.

Finally check consistency among product images, capability descriptions and combination rules. If the main visual shows objects listed as mutually exclusive, check its purpose and scope; do not leave text rejecting what the image affirms. Completed product configuration dependency explanations tell customers the prerequisites, known conflicts and further confirmation matters rather than merely a string of function names.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Do separate option pages mean the options can be used together?

Page existence does not establish a usable combination. Independent descriptions explain individual purposes; combination relationships need confirmation with the base product and conditions. See [How to design a B2B product detail page? The more parameters there are, the more professional they are. Instead, they should help purchasers complete comparisons and make decisions more quickly](https://www.jvds.cn/en/share/website-design/b2b-product-detail-page-design) for related checks.

### Do many configuration relationships require an automatic configurator?

Not necessarily. Organize reliable rules first; a few relationships can be explained clearly in text. Automatic tools should execute confirmed relationships instead of covering documentation gaps with complex interfaces.

### Can “unsupported” represent both exclusions and pending confirmation?

It should not. Exclusions have explicit evidence; pending confirmation means insufficient information or assessment. The states imply different next steps, and merging them misrepresents product scope.

### How should an option requiring customer-supplied equipment be explained?

State confirmed supporting conditions and supply responsibility, then identify the required product documents. Do not mix customer-provided items into company options or confirm integration from names alone.

### Is adding a function description enough for a new option?

Also confirm the base objects, prerequisites, exclusions and pending relationships, and check known references. A complete function description does not establish relationships with existing combinations.
