# After adding a website section, how can you prevent several versions of the same information?

Before adding a website section, identify primary information pages and use references, links, or approved supplementary explanations to serve different tasks. This suits sites with growing products, services, and articles. Copying saves initial organization but creates conflicting versions. Plan maintenance sources and update actions together.

## A new section needs a new task, not necessarily a new copy

Ask which visitor question the section answers. If the same information merely needs another location, add an entry without duplicating the whole text. A different context may need additional explanation while retaining a clear factual source. Sections are search routes; pages are information objects. They are not interchangeable.

If product specifications already have an official main page, an application section can explain related selection conditions and point to it. The company must confirm applications; do not infer uses just to fill a section. If the new section repeats the same product list, first assess whether it needs to exist independently. See [How to Use Canonical Tags Correctly](https://www.jvds.cn/en/share/website-design/canonical-tag-guide) for related checks.

## Record primary sources for repeated materials

Identify which page or entry manages each key fact, including service scope, specifications, attachments, and contact details. List referencing pages and their reviewers. Even without automatic sharing, manual maintenance needs an explanation of these relationships.

Suppose a model's description appears on product and industry pages, but only the former is updated after a specification changes. The solution is not another reminder to be careful. Establish the primary source, reduce repeated fields, or make the industry page point to it. Necessary copies need owners and checks for synchronized updates.

A primary source does not require identical copy everywhere. Pages can explain different tasks, but shared facts must not conflict. Editors should know what may be rewritten, what must stay consistent, and how to trace the approved version.

## Check four relationships before publishing a section

Check that navigation targets the correct page, lists match the section's meaning, detail pages have suitable return routes, and related links work. Search key models or service names for conflicting descriptions as well. Record the checking scope; do not inspect only the new homepage module.

If administration offers sharing or referencing, demonstrate actual update results. Otherwise, arrange manual synchronization. A function's name does not establish that every copy updates automatically. Tell editors which maintenance objects the new section adds. See [How to Choose a CMS for a Corporate Website](https://www.jvds.cn/en/share/website-design/how-to-choose-cms) for related checks.

Agree on specific sharing, classification, and update functions for the actual project.

## Include existing entries in the change inventory

A new section may affect old navigation, article links, or download locations. Include these impacts in the change inventory and distinguish retained, adjusted, and unverified items. Confirm URL handling against the actual technical solution; a new section alone is not a reason to delete old pages.

Success means editors can find the primary source and checking locations when key information changes. Visitors see consistent facts through different entries, while task explanations each remain useful. Expansion stays maintainable instead of creating another factual copy with every new section.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can the same service description appear on several pages?

Yes, if there is a reason and a clear update source. Manage key facts through shared content or references where possible. If copying must be manual, list synchronization locations and responsible people.

### Should the old section be deleted immediately after the new one launches?

Not necessarily. Check whether it still has an independent task and how existing links and content will migrate. Confirm replacement routes and technical handling before changes, so visitors' existing entries do not fail.
