Which Structured Data Does a Corporate Website Need? Organization, Breadcrumb, and Article

Which Structured Data Does a Corporate Website Need? Organization, Breadcrumb, and Article

Author: JVDS Design Studio Reading time: about 4 min

Structured data is often treated as an SEO plugin switch that adds many Schema types sitewide. The result is mismatched content, inconsistent company information, and repeated Organization markup.

First identify the page and its visible content, then select a matching type. Structured data helps understanding; it cannot create nonexistent facts.

01 Add Organization to the Home or About Page

Organization name, website URL, Logo, contacts, and real address can identify the company. One complete instance on home or About is generally enough; every article does not need all fields.

Names, Logos, and contacts must match visible content and the legal entity. Do not add nonexistent awards, ratings, or branches.

02 Use BreadcrumbList for Content Hierarchy

Breadcrumbs should reflect a user-understandable hierarchy, such as Home > Articles > Website SEO > Current Article, not mechanically copy the URL.

Prefer visible breadcrumbs whose structured data matches navigation.

Common Schema Choices for Corporate Websites

TypeApplicable PageImportant Fields and Boundaries
OrganizationHome or AboutName, URL, Logo, contact, and real entity
BreadcrumbListService, Case Study, Article, and Other Internal PagesPage hierarchy aligned with visible navigation
Article/BlogPostingArticle DetailHeadline, author, published and modified dates, and main image
LocalBusinessReal Physical Location and Local ServiceAddress, phone, and business information must be genuine
Product/SoftwareApplicationReal Product or Software PageDo not force product fields onto a service promotion
FAQPageVisible FAQ Content ExistsEligibility and rules change; rich results are not guaranteed

03 Mark Authors and Update Dates on Articles

Article data must match visible headline, author, dates, and main image. An author can be a person or organization with a verifiable profile.

Changing only structured-data modified dates without body changes does not make content new and weakens credibility.

04 Use LocalBusiness Only for Real Local Entities

Companies with visitable offices, stores, or defined local services can use the most specific subtype. Online-only teams should not invent addresses for local rankings.

Keep address and phone consistent across the corporate website, maps, and other listings.

05 Ratings and Reviews Are Commonly Abused

Companies cannot invent five-star AggregateRating or mark internally written customer-perspective copy as genuine reviews. Reviews must come from real users and follow display rules.

Hidden code does not permit data that differs from visible content.

06 JSON-LD Is Maintainable but Still Needs Validation

JSON-LD is usually easier for templates and CMSs. Dynamic sites may generate it server-side or with JavaScript, but search engines must see correct rendered data.

Use Rich Results Test and Schema validators before launch and URL inspection after deployment.

07 Use a Shared Data Source to Prevent Inconsistency

Company name, Logo, address, authors, and social links should come from shared configuration; article fields from the CMS. Do not hard-code each page separately.

When brands or addresses change, update visible content and markup together, including caches and language versions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Structured Data Directly Improve Rankings?

It cannot guarantee improvement. It supports understanding and some display eligibility, while rankings use relevance, quality, links, and other signals.

Does Every Page Need Organization?

No. Usually provide complete organization data on home or About and use page-specific types elsewhere.

Can a Service Page Use Product Schema?

Only if it genuinely represents a purchasable or defined product or service and follows supported types. Do not force it for rich results.

Is FAQ Schema Still Useful?

It aids machine understanding, though display eligibility changes and not every site receives it. Page content matters more.

Is Plugin-Generated Schema Enough?

Plugins improve efficiency, but types, fields, visible content, and duplicates still require review.
