Visual guide to designing a renewable energy company website around technology, project capability, and ESG evidence

How to Design a Renewable Energy Company Website

Author: JVDS Design Studio Reading time: about 8 min

Renewable energy websites often have one of two disconnects: technical pages are filled with terminology that investors and procurement teams cannot understand, or brand pages promote a low-carbon future without evidence of projects, capacity, certifications, or delivery. The result works neither as technical information nor as support for business decisions.

A more effective structure first explains where the company sits in the value chain and which specific problem it solves, then proves its claims through its technical approach, product data, project experience, and governance information.

01 Clarify the Industry Position and Customer

Batteries, energy storage, solar, hydrogen, charging and battery swapping, materials, and energy management all have different customers and decision processes. The first screen should quickly show which part of the value chain the company serves, who it serves, and whether it provides products or project services.

“Providing renewable energy solutions” is too broad to create meaningful recognition.

02 Make the Technical Approach Understandable to Nonengineers

Technical pages should explain principles, advantages, applicable conditions, and limitations, with parameters, white papers, or test notes. Start with the business conclusion, then allow technical users to explore details.

Patent counts and technical terms are not a complete explanation.

03 Prove Project Capability with Process Evidence

Project case studies should describe scale, location, customer context, the company's responsibilities, delivery stage, and operating status. One photograph of a power station or factory cannot prove engineering, operations, or integration capability.

When customer confidentiality applies, describe the scope and technical challenges anonymously.

04 Link Safety, Quality, and Certifications to Products

Evidence for battery safety, grid connection, transportation, environmental standards, and quality systems should identify applicable models, markets, and scope. Certification badges should link to an understandable explanation.

Regional requirements change quickly, so pages need an update process and professional review.

05 Turn ESG Claims into Verifiable Information

Companies can disclose energy use, emissions boundaries, supply chain governance, recycling mechanisms, and annual progress, while explaining the methodology, period, and calculation method.

“Protecting a green planet” alone does not let users evaluate actual action.

06 Design Pathways for Different Decision-Makers

Procurement teams focus on products and delivery, technical teams on specifications and integration, investors on markets and governance, and partners on channels and regional capabilities. The homepage need not include every detail, but it should route each audience clearly.

Contact paths should also distinguish project inquiries, technical partnerships, procurement, and investor relations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should a renewable energy website publish every technical specification?

Publish the key specifications needed for selection. Complex or sensitive details can be provided through downloads and technical discussions.

Can ESG reporting use industry estimates?

They can provide background context, but company-specific achievements need clear boundaries, methods, and periods and should not be presented as the same thing.

What if a customer has not authorized a project case study?

Describe the location, scale, responsibilities, and challenges anonymously, without identifiable information or an unauthorized logo.

Does the website need an investor relations section?

Public companies and companies raising capital typically need one. Other companies can decide based on their actual audience.

How should a multi-market website handle certification differences?

Build a content matrix by region and product, clearly stating which certifications apply to which markets and models.
